Where to park it?

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Suppose you had the good fortune of inheriting a million dollars.
Common sense would dictate that you wouldn’t want to invest it right off the bat. You’d be well advised to wait at least a month or two until you had time to weigh your options and figure out what you want to do with [...]

Hope to ER soon.

Hi,
I found this site today as I am considering ER soon. It looks like this site has many good posts to sort through.
I am 42, married, with 2 kids (6th and 11th grades). I have a current net worth of about $2.75mil with $2.3mil being in savings / 401K (remainder [...]

Depressing thought

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

During a boring stint at work, I figured out that I spend 40% of my WAKING hours at work. I work 8 to 5 and work thru most lunches and have one hour of travel time total to get to/from work each day. If you assume 8 hours of sleep each night, 3 [...]

Fly Swatter Technology

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Here in NYC we have fly the size of hummingbirds. I have one of the old wire screen swatters and the splash thru is rough. The plastic ones are against my Green Earth sensitivities.

Non-traditional housing shapes

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Has anyone on the boards actually lived in a non-traditional house for a couple of years or more?
I’m thinking of the yurt, dome, or more exotic shapes such as the ciurcular or spiral shapes.
Over my life (64 years to date), I’ve come to know that what looks oh-so-radical and ‘cool’ on paper doesn’t actually work [...]

Its lots of numbers, and looking [...]

Techie: Backup MX server for self-hosted email

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

I use my own domain name and self-managed server for email.
This works great, but it’s conceivable that I could experience an outage of a day or more leaving me without email. And with more and more e-bills and paperless banking I need reliable email.
Does anyone have experience with a paid backup MX server service? Something [...]

Post age, where you’re at financially, and where you hope to be

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

I’m trying to guage where most of you on this board are financially in life.
I, myself, am in my early 30’s.
What is your liquid net worth and what are your milestones?
How long did it take you to save up your first 100k, 200k, 300k, etc.
